Photo Manual for Fisheries Enforcement

TMT and Stop Illegal Fishing have produced the Photo Manual for Fisheries Enforcement, a guide to the use of photography and analysis of vessel photographs to aid fisheries enforcement. The Photo Manual has been produced by Stop Illegal Fishing and TMT as part of our support to the FISH-i Africa and West Africa Task Forces.

Photographs play a vital role in identifying vessels that are involved in illegal fishing and fisheries crime. By gathering information about the appearance, identity and operations of fishing vessels, fisheries officials are collecting evidence that may prove crucial for investigations.

The Photo Manual provides a comprehensive guide to this important tool, including practical information on setting up cameras and taking good vessel photographs, guidelines on storage and use of photographs, key pointers for vessel photo analysis and a number of case studies illustrating how vessel photographs have been used to uncover cases of illegal fishing.
